Trichology

WHAT IS TRICHOLOGY?

scopingTrichology is the scientific study of the hair and scalp. It involves the diagnosis and non-medical treatment of problems surrounding the hair and scalp.

Although the hair and scalp are viewed as external structures, they actually reflect the status of the complex body systems that keep the body functioning. For that reason, trichologists study the body systems, nutrition, chemistry of the hair, and the physiology of the hair and skin. Trichology focuses on treating the hair from the inside-out. A healthy scalp begins with a healthy body.

The most widely known conditions treated with Trichology are:

Telogen Effluvium, Alopecia Areata, Androgenetic Hair Loss, Traction Alopecia, Psoriasis, Seborrheic Dermatitis, Pityriasis (dandruff).
Hair loss origins can involve genetics as well as non-genetic factors such as poor nutrition, fever, anemia, hormonal imbalance, thyroid abnormalities, diabetes, medications, stress, pregnancy, chemical damage, bacterial infections, hair styling equipment, and more. Effective treatment begins with a thorough consultation. Relevant information regarding a client’s health, medical history, diet, medications, hair care habits, and genetic history is recorded and analyzed during the initial examination.

Treatments used in Trichology include, but are not limited to:

Creams, topical ointments, micro-circulation therapy, oxygen treatments for the scalp, dietary supplements, nutritional therapy, hair and scalp exfoliation, and low level light therapy.

When should I contact a Trichologist? If you are experiencing any of the following:

Sudden bald spot, excessive shedding, overall thinning, excessive oiliness or dryness, breakage after a chemical service, or persistent itching/burning of the scalp.

Trichologists are para-medical (non-physician) hair and scalp specialists trained to incorporate a holistic approach in researching and identifying the root cause of hair/scalp disorders
